It's a Jungle Out There |
Description: |
CSAO SA2 (CSX 4412 GP40-2) uses every inch it can in order to switch cars at Silver Line Windows. The actual end of the Sayreville Running Track is still 75 ft. away, but over time nature has slowly been taking over. The engineers have been refusing to move any further fearing that they would either not be able to stop or even get rolling again once the vegetation got between the wheels and track. Their complaints have been heard and whe track has been recently cleared and cleaned up. |

The High Life |
Description: |
It has been a crazy week for the Conrail Shared Assests Opgrations CSAO SA2 along the Sayreville Running Track. Normally this train only runs on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays and maybe 2 or 3 times a month if that. But for this week, it showed up Monday (twice to dwill), skipped Tuesday, Wednesday (twice to drill) and Thursday only to find out there was nothing to take back. Here CSX 4415 (GP40-2) on Wednesdays mid-day shove back across the bridge. The bridge spans roughly 200 ft and stands approximately 50 ft tall. The builders plate on the side states that it was built in 1907 by The Pennsylvania Steel Company of Steelton, PA. Nikon D5300: AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm @ 22mm:f9:1/60:AP:ISO100:Vivid Color Preset. The Chase |
Description: |
Although not a particular great shot, this photo sort of sums up the events leading up to this moment. To me, it also kind of captures the fading away of the local servicing by the railroads with the disconnected rails of the Sunshine Biscuit factory in the background. Short story: CSAO SA2 returns to Browns Yard after a long afternoon servicing Silver Line Windows. Long story: I caught SA2 sitting outside Silver Line when leaving work. I have been working on getting a shot of it in front of the Milltown Station for a few months now and decided to wait it out there. SA2 had a tough time that night. The last 100 ft is overgrown with weeds which prevent engineers to utilize the full length of track to make for efficient switching. In addition, some of the hopper cars had bad brakes, so extra time was needed to chock the wheels. Light was fading fast, so getting the freight station shot was not going to happen. Listening to the radio chatter, SA2 was going to make a stop out Mauser on its way back to pick up 2 cars left the previous day. Knowing I had some time, I went home and grabbed a flash and heading over to Mauser and waited. The radio saved me again as I found out that that SA2 wasn't going to Mauser, but the siding that near there. SA2 had to pick up the cars quick in order to make it back across the South River Bridge in 10 minutes. Back in the car, I tried to see if I could get to the bridge. I met up with SA2 just as it crossed Harts Lane. Not too familiar with South River, I guessed wrong on which way to get to the bridge. SA2 was able to make it's deadline getting across while I was already heading down Jernee Mill Road trying to find a good location. Quickly, I set up the camera and tried some test shots. Moments later, SA2 approaches at a good clip with the conductor throwing flares along the crossings. Fingers crossed, the shutter clicks. |
